Hampi - Life at the River

Hampi is situated on the banks of the Tungabhadra river, which plays a central role in the life of the city. Women do their laundry there, whereas men fish. It is also a place of social gatherings.

As we were walking along the river we met a man that was weaving a boat to be soon used to transport people across the river. As the river was pretty wide and seemed to be moving fast, we were a bit skeptical whether the boat would be good enough to serve that purpose. Still, out of curiosity, we asked the weaver man how many people he was planning to transport in his boat. His answer was: 12 Indians or 4 Westerners...
